As a Struggle Well Logistics Manager for Boulder Crest Foundation, Lori has the unique opportunity to bring her experience as a law enforcement officer, military veteran, and educator together in support of those navigating their post-traumatic growth journey.
Lori grew up in Ohio where she graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She taught high school English and coached varsity basketball for 2 years before expanding her call to service nationally. In 2001, she was commissioned in the United States Air Force. Her first orders were a special assignment to Andrews AFB, home of the presidential air fleet, across the Potomac River from the Pentagon. Arriving 2 months prior to September 11, the timing and mission confirmed she was where she needed to be to make an impact.
After completing 6 years of military service, she joined the Tucson Police Department as a patrol officer. During her law enforcement career, she proudly served a decade on TPD’s honor guard unit. Notably, she was one of four department-wide members selected by the Tucson Police Officer Association to represent the department at National Police Week in Washington, D.C. She also dedicated her Saturdays to the Safe Teen Accident Reduction Training program as a driving instructor.
Utilizing her skills in formal education, she attained Subject Matter Expert certification in instructor development and solely ran TPD’s General Instructor Program for 10 years. Prior to retiring in 2024, she was promoted to Advanced Officer Training Coordinator and Curriculum Specialist developing and delivering in-person and online training to the department’s nearly 900 officers. When TPD began working with BCF to bring Struggle Well training to its members, Lori identified an opportunity for the program to be recognized by the State Peace Officer Standards and Training Board. She orchestrated the compliance measures necessary to ensure sworn personnel received credit toward their annual training requirements in addition to the countless benefits of attending the program.
Lori is a grateful alumnus of Struggle Well, and routinely applies the Posttraumatic Growth framework to her life. When she isn’t working, she enjoys exploring the Arizona outdoors with her family, creating art, and volunteering in the community.
