Neal is a retired police officer who concluded his career as a sergeant after serving 33 years with the Chesterfield County Police Department from 1990 to 2023. Most of his tenure was spent in uniform as both a patrol officer and shift supervisor. He held certifications as a Virginia State General Instructor, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Firearms Instructor, as well as a Taser and ASP expandable baton instructor. Neal received bravery awards from both the Chesterfield County and City of Richmond Police Departments.
In addition to his policing career, Neal served in the United States Army for 23 years, both on active duty and as part of the reserve component between 1985 and 2008. As a commissioned officer in the Military Police, he held various leadership positions and retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
Neal currently works as a Struggle Well guide for the Boulder Crest Foundation. He enjoys spending time with his wife, children, grandchild, and pets.
