The Hero’s Journey | Call to Adventure PTG Playlist

June 2, 2025

Call to Adventure:  This is the moment when the hero is first invited or compelled to leave their familiar world behind and begin a journey into the unknown. It marks the first step toward transformation, offering the chance to face challenges, grow, and ultimately discover a deeper purpose or truth.

1. “Go Your Own Way” – Fleetwood Mac
This is a call to leave behind what no longer serves. Whether it’s a relationship, a system, or a way of thinking, the hero chooses independence, even if it means walking alone.

2. “Changed the Locks” – Lucinda Williams
This is a boundary drawn in steel. The protagonist refuses to remain trapped, choosing instead to reclaim power and agency. The call here is fierce, clear: I will protect myself. I will move forward.

3. “Control” – Halsey
A battle cry from someone stepping out of chaos and into ownership of their identity and power. The call here is internal—wrestling with demons and declaring, I am not afraid of what I’ve been through anymore.

4. “Awake and Alive” – Skillet
This is the moment the hero opens their eyes to purpose. It’s about reawakening the will to live fully, to fight for what matters, and to step into life with courage after numbness or darkness.

5. “Smells Like Teen Spirit” – Nirvana
The restlessness and raw energy in this song mark a breaking point—when frustration and disillusionment push the hero to break free. It’s messy, loud, and real—just like many beginnings.

6. “Defying Gravity” – Wicked Soundtrack
This song is about shedding fear, shame, and expectation. The call is to rise, unapologetically, and to refuse to be held down any longer. “It’s time to try defying gravity.”

7. “Learning to Fly” – Tom Petty
A quiet but powerful call to take that first step. It’s about daring to dream, even when the odds are high. The hero may not know what lies ahead, but they’re willing to try.

8. “Adventure of a Lifetime” – Coldplay
This is the invitation to re-engage with life—to feel joy, love, movement, and wonder again. The call is not just to survive, but to live—to embrace the adventure ahead.

9. “Don’t Stop Believin’” – Journey
An anthem of faith and perseverance. The hero hears the call not through a shout, but through a whisper: Keep going. Keep hoping. The road ahead may be hard, but you are not alone.

Each song represents that crucial turning point—the decision to leave behind the familiar and step toward growth. At Boulder Crest, we believe this is where transformation truly begins: not when the path is clear, but when the heart is ready.
