Dan has been training llamas since he was 7 years old when he was lucky enough to be part of the Elkhart County 4-H Llovable Llama club in rural Indiana. Llamas were a consistent positive influence in his tumultuous young life which inspired a passion to share llamas and their incredible nature with the public.
As a young adult, Dan earned a degree and worked in conservation before sliding down the slippery slope of pack llamas. He guided commercial pack trips throughout the west while doing a little bit of a lot of things to make the seasonal nature of llama packing sustainable. He has been a wildland firefighter, archaeologist, park ranger, cellar master, carpenter, and baker among other roles. He began breeding, training and brokering llamas as the pack llama industry boomed and was able to spend more time taking care of the critters that take care of him.
When confronted with the opportunity to buy a llama outfitting business he did some soul searching and decided he had more to give and therefore earned a BSN to become an ICU nurse. This choice allowed llamas to be more of a passion project. Sharing llamas with people is his calling and BCF is enabling him to pursue his passion in the most meaningful way imaginable.
He is incredibly honored to be Director of Llama Operations of BCF Wyoming and is confident the herd he brings with him has a lot to offer the PTG community.
