Kanako Taku, Ph.D.

Kanako Taku received her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Nagoya University in Japan in 2005. After working with Drs. Richard Tedeschi and Lawrence Calhoun from 2005 to 2008, Kana joined the Psychology Department at Oakland University, Michigan. Currently, she is a Professor of Psychology and the Director of the Free Form Tipping Point (FF-TIP) Lab, where she conducts quantitative and qualitative research with undergraduate and graduate students who study how people experience changes in perceptions, decision making, emotions, attitudes, judgments, beliefs, and behaviors, including posttraumatic growth. Her research also includes attitudes toward death as well as non-death losses. She has served as Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Loss and Trauma since 2023.
