Orestes “Tico” Guas Jr.

Orestes ‘Tico’ Guas, Jr. is a husband, father and most recently a retired law enforcement officer for the City of Miami Police Department. Tico is a 2nd generation law enforcement officer and began his law enforcement career in 2004.  During his law enforcement career, he worked in a variety of capacities to include Undercover Jump-Out, Gang Unit, Assault Investigations, K-9 Sergeant, Field Training Sergeant, Crisis Intervention Team Sergeant, Peer Support Sergeant, and Patrol Sergeant.  His proudest achievement of his law enforcement career came in 2016 when he began teaching the Autism portion of CIT training with his son Julian, who is a highly functioning autistic. On May 26, 2023, Tico retired with 19 years of service.

In 2021 Tico attended the Struggle Well Program for the first time and later that year he attended Warrior PATHH. He credits both Struggle Well and Warrior PATHH for turning his life around and is now dedicated and passionate about working with first responders to better their relationships with their families. He understands what the “job” can do to officers and their families and is now dedicated to helping any officer, dispatcher or first responder better their lives as a Master Trainer for the Boulder Crest Foundation, Struggle Well Program.  In addition to this commitment, he also currently serves as an advisory board member for the Miami-Dade Regional Peer Support Team.
