The newfound appreciation for life has two components. The first is a sense of gratitude for what we have; the second is a shift in priorities and an understanding of what truly matters to us. For many trauma survivors, even the most basic aspects of life (the smell of coffee in the morning, laughter of a child) are seen as incredible gifts.
