The Posttraumatic Growth Inventory–Expanded Version (PTGI-X; Tedeschi et al., 2017) was modified from the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI; Tedeschi & Calhoun, 1995; 1996) to assess positive changes following a traumatic event with additional focus on experiences with spiritual and existential growth.
The PTGI was expanded to include items that represent a diversity of perspectives on spiritual–existential experiences. Based on definitions of spiritual and existential change in the published literature, four items were added to the two original Spiritual Change (SC) items to create the SEC factor.
Psychometric evaluation of the data was conducted using undergraduate students samples were obtained from 3 countries: the United States, Turkey, and Japan. The 5-factor structure of the expanded scale was supported by confirmatory factor analysis. The internal consistency and concurrent validity were reported.
